Music Makes the World Go 'Round

Last night I listened to Edie Carey's "Red Shoes" again and it still strikes a chord with me (pardon the pun) as powerfully as the first time I heard it at World Cafe Live a few weeks ago during the "Women who Folk" show. Thought I'd share it with you.

I will be aboard the Cayamo Cruise in February 2010 and I can't wait to spend 5 days aboard a gorgeous ship with some of my favorite musicians and dear friends. If you don't know anything about Cayamo or any of the other cruises sponsored by Sixthman, I urge you to check them out. These cruises are a "must do" for avid music lovers. I could attempt to describe my Cayamo experiences from 2008, but it really is hard to convey in words. Cayamo is an experience  - a "Woodstock on Water" - and I am so happy to be going in 2010.

Edie Carey was on Cayamo in 2008 as a cruisegoer. She won Open Mic that year. In 2009 she won Paste Magazine's Rock-N-Reel contest and was able to join Cayamo 2009 as an artist. In 2010 Edie will return as a featured musician and I am so excited for her. Also on the 2010 cruise will be Emmy Lou Harris, Buddy Miller, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Brandi Carlile, and many more.

Music reminds me that I am alive and that I am not alone...that there are others in this wide, wide world who go through the same things I do - who feel the same way that I feel. Surrounded by friends and family (whether in person or online) I still find solace in the music and lyrics of some of my favorite singer/songwriters, including: Patty Griffin, Jonathan Brooke, Brandi Carlile, Shawn Colvin, etc. Edie Carey's music has a special way of helping me feel connected when need to be reminded and I am grateful for that.

What musicians/songs strike a special chord with you, TBA Readers?

I'd love to hear from you.

P.S. Another song that I've been really connecting with is called "Before It Breaks". This song will be on Brandi Carlile's upcoming album, "Give Up the Ghost", due out in early September. Check out the song on YouTube and let me know what you think.

Elton John will be making an appearance on "Give Up the Ghost" and I can't wait!
